"The greatest artist has no conception which a single block of marble does not potentially contain within its mass, but only a hand obedient to the mind can penetrate this image"
- Michelangelo Buonarroti

I believe that art should be beautiful and colorful. I have chosen wood as my medium because of the natural beauty that lies within each piece. My desire is to bring out the beauty in a way that can be held or touched.
I have always loved working with wood. As a teenager, I loved working on wood projects in shop classes. I have built numerous wood items for my home and also for my children. In doing my wood turnings I let the wood dictate to me what it wants to look like when finished. I never create the same thing twice because I believe that everyone should have an original.
Exotic or unusual woods and burls are my materials of choice, and I believe that Australian burls are the most beautiful woods of the world. They have a variety of colors, and are truly individual and amazing as I turn them. Whatever wood I use, I try to let the individual beauty of the wood emerge in my work. Sometimes, I will leave some of the natural exterior of the wood intact, showing the contrast between that rough texture and the beautiful quality of my work. Although, my finished works aren’t classically "perfect", I believe it gives them character.
